I discovered something today -- an arboretum. After experiencing one I refuse to look at the actual definition and instead I'll make up my own.
It's basically a tiny piece nature with different kinds of plants from different regions of the world. There was a desert area for cacti and giant succulents. There was a tropical area for bigger and greener trees and bushes. In the center of the park was a pond with fish and turtles. The whole thing was beautiful.
Being from Los Angeles I'm used to bigger parks such as Griffith Park and Echo Park. Now that I reside in Anaheim I'd have to make at least half a day of visiting the park, finding parking and looking for food. In Anaheim all there really is to have fun is Disneyland or downtown Fullerton. Everything else is just busy city.
Having found the arboretum means a great deal to me. As a nature lover I need to have a place where I can just go and enjoy the trees and the grass and the birds without having to make a long trip.
The nature park is less than six miles from where I live. I can start going there for morning jogs, afternoon painting sessions and evening picnics. I found a place where I can go and relax, a place to center myself when things get to be a little too heavy. Anaheim is slowly starting to feel like home.
